What a gym member app should show your members

When a gym adds a member app, the temptation is to think about what the gym needs. A better question is what the member would open it for. If the answer is clear, the app gets used. If not, it sits on the phone and is deleted.

Their membership

The most common question at the desk is "when does my membership end?". A member who can see their package, start date and end date does not need to ask, and does not feel surprised by a renewal.

Their payments

Members like to be able to see what they have paid. A clear record reduces disagreements about amounts and dates and builds trust in how the gym handles money.

Their attendance

Seeing their own attendance is a quiet nudge. It shows a member how often they have actually come, and makes it easier to commit to a routine.

Their progress

Measurements and progress photos are what members care about most. Seeing weight, body fat and measurements over time, with front, side and back photos, makes progress real.

Their plans

A workout or diet plan on the phone is far more useful than one on paper. Members can check what to do today without asking a trainer or carrying a printout.

Keep sign-in simple

Members should not need to manage another password. Signing in with the mobile number the gym registered keeps access easy and tied to the record you already have.

A day in the life of a member

A member opens the app on the way to the gym. They check today's workout from the plan you assigned. After the session they glance at their attendance, and at the end of the month they look at their latest measurements and photos. A week before the renewal date they notice their membership end date themselves. None of this needed a conversation at the desk.

Questions members should not have to ask

  • When does my membership end?
  • How much did I pay, and when?
  • What am I supposed to do today?
  • How have my measurements changed?

When the answers are in the app, the desk conversations that remain are the useful ones: goals, changes and renewals.

What it does for your team

Fewer repeated questions means trainers and the front desk spend more time coaching and less time looking things up. It also means the information members see comes from the same record you use, so everyone is working from one version of the truth.

Common mistakes

  • Launching the app and not telling members. Tell them at joining and at every renewal.
  • Making members register themselves. The fewer steps, the more people use it.
  • Not keeping the data current. If measurements and plans are stale, the app is not worth opening.
  • Forgetting the front desk. The app should make desk conversations easier, not replace them.

How to introduce it to members

  1. At joining, ask for the mobile number you will register and tell them they can sign in with it.
  2. Show them where to see their membership and plans.
  3. After each measurement, tell them it is now in the app.
  4. At renewal time, remind them they can check their dates themselves.

Questions owners ask

Do members need to create an account?

Members sign in with the mobile number the gym registered for them.

What do members see?

Their membership and package, payments, attendance, measurements, progress photos and assigned plans.

How this works in Gymnaro

Members sign in with the mobile number you registered for them and can see:

  • their membership and package
  • their payments
  • their attendance
  • their measurements and progress photos
  • their assigned workout and diet plans

Gym owners can delete their account, and members can delete theirs, from the app. See the full feature list, or download the app. Progress tracking is covered in body measurements and progress tracking.
